Stationary Awnings This page contains multiple images and may require some computers longer to download. Please be patient - it's worth the wait!
Awning: an architectural element composed of a welded frame which is usually covered in fabric or any other material and which extends horizontally from a building or structure to provide shelter either from rain or sun.
There are many styles of awnings on the market today. Below are some of the standard shapes that you may find around town. However, in most cases if you can dream it, someone can make it.
There are a few guidelines you should be aware of when dreaming up your awning -
1) Awnings usually have 3 dimensions - the overall width (horizontal measurement along the building), the projection (horizontal measurement away from the building), and the wall height (the awnings vertical dimension). 2) Consider the shape of the awning - what shape of awning will compliment the architectural style of your home or business. 3) The position of the awning on the house - is the window facing east, west, north or south? Sometimes a stationary awning doesn't always solve sun issues. When the awning faces east or west, the sun, when rising or setting, might still shine in below the bottom of the awning. To check, cut a piece of cardboard the same width and projection as the awning would measure, place it 1/3 down from the top of the window and check if it provides enough shade to cover the base of the window at all times. 4) The type of fabric - Sunbrella® acrylic, vinyl, open weave solar screen?
